John Kippin «Blue Streak» 2002.
John Kippin has produced a series of large-scale photographs depicting remaining evidence of the nuclear Blue Streak's development at Spadeadam in the United Kingdom, and pieces of the rocket itself, as preserved in museums. These images reflect on the legacy of Blue Streak - in terms of Spadeadam's major impact on Brampton's social and economic development and the programme's considerable technological achievements. Blue Streak was initially designed as a launcher for nuclear weapons.
Kippin considers how the pride in the scientific and technical capabilities of military hardware can override moral considerations of their function. Blue Streak has been organised by Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery with the support of the Heritage Lottery Fund, the Arts Council of England and Cumbria County Council.
